2013 MALAS Conference to be held in St. Louis
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – May 16, 2013 – The 2013 conference of the Midwest Association for Latin American Studies (MALAS) will be held in St. Louis, Missouri, during November 7 – 9, 2013. It will be held in conjunction with the ISA-Midwest conference.
The schedule of events includes a welcome reception on Thursday, November 7, 2013, paper presentations all day on Friday, November 8th and on Saturday, November 9th during the morning. The MALAS business meeting will be held that Saturday in the afternoon. On Thursday and after the reception, MALAS members will have the chance to attend the meeting of the Council on Foreign Relations St. Louis Committee. The conference will be held at Hilton St. Louis at the Ballpark hotel in downtown St. Louis.
The theme for this year’s conference is “Mapping Latin America in the 21st Century.”
The “Call for Papers” has been made and proposals must be received by August 31, 2013
MALAS is interdisciplinary and welcomes papers on a variety of Latin American topics. For information on papers and sessions, please write to J.D. Bowen at firstname.lastname@example.org. Those submitting papers for consideration should send by email the title of the paper, a 150-word abstract and contact information (name, affiliation, address, phone and email) to J.D. Bowen.
Suggested topics include the following: Political Change; Democratic Processes; Natural Resources; Environmental Studies; Culture and Identity; International Relations; Sustainable Development; Free Trade Agreements; Literature, Art, Music; Gender Roles; Economic Policies; History and Landscape; Migration Topics; Indigenous Peoples; New Technologies; Social Justice and Human Rights; Country Studies; Regional Economic Integration; Caribbean Topics; Immigration; etc. Other paper topics are welcome!
