This year’s MALAS Conference in Dallas, Texas promises to be as good as ever. We are all aware that 2009 is moving rather quickly and world affairs, and most relevant to MALAS the Latin American affairs, continue to stir our intellect and presents challenges to the relationship between that region and the USA. The advent of an Obama administration and its interest in the region raises many questions and expectations; border disputes are in the raise; election of leftist candidates increases the debates; economic concerns worries many; the presence of China, Russia, Taliban, and others in the region ensues further analysis of relationships and influences; and many wonder what is the impact of these on matters of academic concerns. The MALAS Conference offers a forum to present and debate those topics surrounded by the great people of Dallas, Texas.
The program that Dr. Jennifer Holmes and the organizing committee are putting together will certainly justify your presence. I hope that having the conference in Dallas makes it easier for you to attend. We know that it will minimize the costs; ease the ground transportation, and permits many to attend. I encourage all to first join MALAS and further reduce your attending costs; consider presenting at the conference; make early reservations at the hotel; and further encourage your colleagues, friends, and acquaintances to join us in our 59th Annual Conference.
My most sincere gratitude for your attention on this matter and please feel free to contact me at sonmelao@yahoo.com and/or Tel: 314-440-0297.
