CALL FOR PAPERS: Conference Theme -- New Horizons in the Americas / Nuevos Horizontes en las Américas

It is with great pleasure that we invite you and your colleagues on behalf of MALAS and ISA-Midwest to participate in the Joint Meeting of the interdisciplinary Midwest Association of Latin American Studies (MALAS) and the International Studies Association-Midwest Chapter!

Some highlights of our program include:

• The welcoming reception will be Thursday, Nov. 1, 4:30-6:30pm at the Hilton Hotel (the conference hotel).
• The Council on Foreign Relations of St. Louis is hosting a dinner and speech by Ambassador Arturo Cruz Jr., Nicaraguan Ambassador to the United States, Thursday, Nov. 1, drinks start at 6:15pm, dinner and speech 6:45pm. Venue TBA, but it should be a short distance from the Hilton. Additional fee paid to CFR.
• Plenary session on Friday, Nov. 2, 1:30-3:15pm, with Ambassador Cruz Jr., and Francisco Villagran De Leon, Ambassador of Guatemala to the Organization of American States, speaking on US-Central American relations [Thanks go to Dick Millett for securing these speakers. Knowing Dick we may see others pop-up at the meeting...many who may still be unaware they are expected in St. Louis...but who I am sure cannot resist Millett's charms and will undoubtedly attend!!]
• Lunch at Guido's Pizzeria and Tapas, Saturday, Nov. 3, 12:30-2:00pm. There will be an additional $15 for those who attend the lunch and we will have two options for our entrée, seafood paella and a vegetarian option.
  In addition to the many interesting panels offered by MALAS, we will have the opportunity to attend many more sponsored by our partner organization ISA-Midwest.
